Memorial Society Laureate of the Right Livelihood Award 2004
Memorial Society, partner organisation of the Heinrich Boell Foundation, is one of the recipient of the Right Livelihood Award 2004 (also known as the "Alternative Nobel Prize"). In their resolution the Jury indicates that Memorial gets the award “...for showing, under very difficult conditions, and with great personal courage, that history must be recorded and understood, and human rights respected everywhere, if sustainable solutions to the legacy of the past are to be achieved”. To the acceptance speech, held by Yelena Zhemkova, member of the board of Memorial Society.
